I haven't been posting as often lately for two reasons… The first is that I'm working on a redesign for the blog (including some pretty cool new hacks I'll post about once the design goes live). I'm hoping to be done with the finishing touches by the end of the weekend. It was getting to be one of those "cobbler's children have no shoes" situations here, so it seemed like time to apply some of my hacks to my own blogs.
The other reason I've been scarce is that I've started taking on some design gigs for other blogs. Lately I've been pretty much flooded with emails asking if I'm for hire to do custom template work, etc. The answer is usually "yes" (depending on whether I feel like I'm the right guy for the project in question). I'll be posting more details about the sites I've been working on and how to hire me soon. In the mean time, if you've got a project that requires some advanced template wizardry, drop me a line from the contact page.
Stay posted for new hacks soon.

Cool, look forward to it. I've found your site very useful in the past.

Hey John! Again, great hacks, great ideas. I have a quick question: have you seen, or played with having a typepad advanced template that posts entries side by side on the center column? Imagine the entries displayed (short excerpts) side by side in two columns inside the center column, with the two sidebars still on the sides. The idea would be for folks to see a variety of entries they can choose from without having to scroll down so much.
I can do it easily with tables, but without the CSS it does not update automatically. I figure it is just a matter of telling the CSS where to place the entries, but... if you know of an easy way... : )
Thanks!

Thanks, Fabian! I'm still fussing with the templates, but I'm hoping to be mostly done tonight.
Nacho,
the easiest way to do it would be to use a three column layout with fixed widths, and some template hacks based on the tutorial here: Using TypePad to Tabulate Data.
I'm going to eventually post some other cool hacks based on that one, but they're a ways from being complete yet.
