Posts have been extremely minimal here since I started weaning myself off nicotine and I apologize for that… I'm hoping that next week I'll be able to get back to more regular posting. I've had to avoid the laptop the last two weeks because I'm pretty much used to chain smoking when I blog, code, etc. I needed to get a bit of distance from that for a while. Just answering comments and emails has been a bit of a struggle. If you emailed or commented in the last couple weeks and I haven't replied, please remind me and I'll do my best to get back to you. I'm not blowing anyone off intentionally, I'm just really fragmented.
I'm about as ADD as you can get, and I've been using cigarettes to self-medicate for the last 20 years or so. It works great. Have a smoke and I can focus intently. I'm working on finding some other ways to do that, but it's taking longer than I'd like (Hey, anything that takes more than five minutes is longer than I like—thats what ADD is all about). I'm down to about 16mg/day from 60, so I am making progress. On the other hand, simple things like driving a car are now so incredibly boring that I can barely stand it. In order to make myself do it, I have to come up with, like, three games to play while driving just to occupy the rest of the brain so it doesn't mutiny. The last couple weeks have been spent mostly staring into space a lot. And twitching.
I do have a bunch of hacks in the queue that I'm trying to get finished, but at the moment the code just makes my head swim. I really appreciate all the supportive emails and comments, as well as the patience everyone has shown. I'm pretty confident that things will pick up soon. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm going to be in Chicago all next week and I should have a bunch of idle time while I'm there to try to finish up some of the hacks in progress.

Stick with it John. Being a non-smoker is way more fun than being a smoker :) And cheers for your email.
